The Dream is Real
"The Dream is Real"
Watercolor, digital color & ink
This piece was created for the second annual Mothers in the Struggle Awards dinner hosted by Moms United Against Violence & Incarceration and Black on Both Sides, both Chicago-based organizations interrupting state violence. In 2015, the poster was gifted to 20 mothers who have been traumatically separated from their kids due to incarceration and other forms of state violence, including murder by police. We honor and uplift their strength and resilience. I used the words of the late Black feminist writer and activist Toni Cade Bambara to remind us that a world once existed without prisons and police, and that world can exist again.
Poster reads "The dream is real my friends, the failure to realize it is the only unreality."
8.5 x 11, cardstock, glossy, digital print.
